Child Passenger Safety Seats
The Arvada Fire District is proud to be an active member of Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Team Colorado. Each of our eight fire stations is open to check your child’s car seat seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. every day of the year.
Through the first three quarters of 2007, our certified CPS technicians have conducted 480 car seat installations and they found that only 29% had been installed properly.
Colorado law states that all children must be restrained by an approved child restraint system until they are six years old or 55 inches tall. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that all child passengers under the age of 16 are properly buckled up in the appropriate restraints. The driver may be fined for each unrestrained child in the vehicle.
The car seat check can take up to 45 minutes to complete and will include a check of the current car seat recall list, proper installation for your vehicle, and an instruction period to teach you the proper way to install your seat. If you would like to have your car seat(s) checked, please contact the District at 303-424-3012 to find out which station is closest to you.
