Chamber of Commerce Honors Police Staff

The Arvada Chamber of Commerce honored Sergeant Shelly Moriarty as the Oustanding Police Officer for 2009 and Susan Medina as Outstanding Public Safety Officer at a luncheon on Friday, April 24th, 2009 at 11:30 am.

A 13-year veteran of the Arvada Police Department, Sgt. Moriarty's current assignment is as supervisor over the Community Response Impact Team (C.R.I.T.).  In this capacity, Sgt. Moriarty has developed programs and contacts to combat significant problems throughout the city, county, and state.

Under Sgt. Moriarty's leadership, the C.R.I.T. has been praised by various Arvada business and community leaders for their passion and professionalism.  In addition to being proactive in the Arvada community in targeting crime issues, Sgt. Moriarty and her team provide informational presentations and statistics to community groups and service organizations.

Additionally, Sgt. Moriarty has been instrumental in the implementation of Cop Link; an effort to interlink law enforcement data bases throughout the state.  Cop Link has been used on several occasions to identify and arrest criminals active in the Arvada area.

Sgt. Moriarty's enthusiasm and direction of the C.R.I.T.team represents the best of the professionalism of the Arvada Police Department.

 

Public Information Officer Susan Medina

Susan Medina is also a 13-year veteran of the Arvada Police Department and operates as the public information officer for the Arvada Police Department. 

Aside from the outstanding relationships she has developed over the years with the various local media outlets, she additionally helped develop a local cable channel 8 TV program COP TALK.  This cable show has won many awards, including some at the national level.  COP TALK has become a primary resource to provide information about what is going on in Arvada, providing safety tips, crimes to watch out for, and tips about relevant topics, such as ID theft.

Ms. Medina has been involved in several high profile cases drawing national media attention, which can be ferocious in its intensity.  Susan worked as a PIO at the Columbine high school tragedy, Platte Canyon High School shooting, and the Youth With a Mission (YWAM) shootings. 

Serious tragedies in our city always involve Ms. Medina being the spokesperson.  She has been on the scene for many events over the years, being called out at any time of the day or night.  She is one of the most well-known faces in Arvada. 

Ms. Medina has continued to work behind the scenes in other community service programs supported by the Arvada Police Department, such as the backpack program that feeds children on weekends when school is out.  Her continuing dedication to the Arvada Police Department and to the citizens of our City are inspiring to all.

 

The Arvada Police Department congratulates both Shelly Moriarty and Susan Medina for a well-deserved honor.
