Beeman Park
The City of Arvada funded the development of almost 4 acres in Beeman Park, located north of Al Meiklejohn Elementary School at Arbutus Street and 84th Avenue. Currently, a ballfield and backstop are available for school and neighborhood use.
City staff, with park and irrigation design by consultants (Britina Design Group and Hines Irrigation Consultants), met twice with the Village of 5 Parks neighbors to determine park needs and to produce a final design. The final design: preserves western views across the park, enhances park entrances producing a fully accessible site, includes native and water conservative plantings, and responds to potential school uses with maintainable elements. Specific improvements include: an irrigated turf play area, a shelter, 3 pedestrian entrances and connective trails throughout the park, regrading to make the park visible from the street edges and to minimize snow drifting on the east edge, with the potential of adding other park features, like rock climbing areas, benches and a tennis court subject to bids lower than the available budget.
The consultant will prepare construction documents for bids. With City Council approval of the contract, construction will start this fall for completion late in 2010 with landscape completion in the spring of 2011.
