7th and 8th Graders: Enter If I Were Mayor Essay Contest!

The Colorado Municipal League and COLOTRUST invite all 7th and 8th grade students throughout Colorado to participate in a statewide essay contest.
Contestants should write essays of 400 – 600 words as if they were the mayor of their town addressing the following issue: During a recent council meeting a resident raises her hand and asks why citizens should care about local government. She doesn’t think city/town services have any impact on the quality of her life or the lives of her two young children. If you were mayor, how would you respond?
Essays will be judged by a committee made up of CML and COLOTRUST officials and other community leaders. Winners will receive a certificate of achievement, $500 to establish a scholarship account with CollegeInvest, and the opportunity to attend the 89th CML Annual Conference June 21–24, in Vail.
Essays must be received by Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Winners will be notified during the middle of May 2011. Entry forms and more information may be found by clicking here or by calling the Colorado Municipal League at 303-831-6411.
