Arvada Officer Named One of Nation’s Top Cops

Arvada police Sergeant A.J. DeAndrea received honorable mention as part of Parade Magazine’s 2007 Police Service Awards.

Sergeant DeAndrea (an Arvada native and Arvada High School graduate) was recognized for his exceptional leadership demonstrated as a team leader with the Jefferson County Regional S.W.A.T. Team and patrol sergeant with the Arvada Police Department.

Sergeant DeAndrea responded to the 2006 hostage situation at Platte Canyon High School and the tragedy at Columbine High School in 1999. He continues to lead, guide and mentor the officers of the Arvada Police Department.

“I’m thrilled A.J. has been nationally recognized for his exemplary work as a Jefferson County Regional S.W.A.T. Team leader and patrol sergeant with the Arvada Police Department,” said Police Chief Don Wick. “The adversity he has experienced has made him stronger, more compassionate and completely dedicated to the community.”
