Arvada Detective Awarded Medal of Valor

Detective Bill Johnson is actively involved with the Denver Metro Auto Theft Team, comprised of investigators from local, state and federal agencies, working to arrest those responsible for operating car theft rings in the state and the nation.

In early January of 2007, during a buy/bust operation when an arrest was attempted, the suspect used a stolen vehicle as a weapon in an effort to escape police. Detective Johnson engaged the suspect, fired his weapon injuring the suspect and stopping the threat.

For his professionalism in setting a location where civilians would not be in danger, ensuring the safety of the responding team, and risking his own life, Detective Johnson was awarded the Department’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor.
