Arvada City Hall Expansion Clicking Along

Based on growing space needs within Arvada City Hall, a major remodel and expansion project is underway. The project consists of remodeling many parts of the existing City Hall structure, relocation of several departments, and the addition of 6,000 square feet of office space to the third floor.

Phase I of the project, involving a major remodel and expansion for the Arvada Police Department communications and dispatch center, was achieved without a glitch in late April. Due to the tremendous planning in advance of the move, the critical component of “cutting over” 911 dispatch systems went smoothly, with no major mechanical, electronic, or technological problems. The move provided an excellent opportunity to test the effectiveness of keeping 911 dispatch functions covered for 48 straight hours, especially since a portion of the work was handled by the City of Westminster Dispatch Center.

Phase II of the project involves an expansion of the third floor. In preparation, holes were drilled through the roof into the ceiling of the second floor and a temporary patch placed over those holes. Unfortunately, during the heavy rains of April 25, a minor flood occurred on the second floor when the patch failed, resulting in two to four inches of water seeping into the Planning Department offices.

Once completed, the expanded third floor will be occupied by the City Attorney's Office; Parks, Golf, and Hospitality; the City Clerk, and the City Manager's Office. Courts, Public Works, Utilities, Arvada Economic Development (AEDA), and Community Development will remain on the second floor. The Human Resources Department will move to the second floor in the area currently occupied by the City Attorney’s Office.
